Have you ever had your WordPress website hacked?
If you have you will know the panic. For me, I found that my website had completely disappeared and there was a skeleton cowboy as my home page – even with a ten-gallon hat! But there was a silver lining, luckily the hosting company was able to recover the data files from their back ups, so the content of all my posts and pages was recovered. But I had to still redesign the site. Which in the end was not a bad thing as it gave me a clean slate to redesign the site. But still, it is not an experience I wish to repeat.
So now in addition to setting up the WordPress security with WordFence, I ensure that the site is regularly backed up to my Google Drive.
The best WordPress back up tool I have found so far is “UpdraftPlus“. The free version meets all my requirements for my simple websites. It runs scheduled backups, it even automatically uploads the scheduled backups to my Google Drive for safekeeping.
