The 6 reasons why businesses struggle to use Keap / Infusionsoft

Keap / Infusionsoft Certified Partner - Julian MillsAre you saying to yourself – Keap / Infusionsoft does not work, Keap / Infusionsoft is way too complex to learn – or simply that you now refer to it as Confusionsoft?

I have worked with Infusiosnoft now for over 11 years and I have thought long and hard as to why Infusiosnoft clients can sometimes struggle and it boils done to 6 areas.

1/ You need a strategic plan.

Clients come to Keap / Infusionsoft after they have seen what it can do, normally for another business. They have seen the amazing results and they want the same for themselves.

They get Keap / Infusionsoft, jump in and then realise that this is complicated and there is some work. They have to learn how to use it, sure, BUT so often the client has no idea what marketing they want the software to do. So now the client has to try to learn the software without knowing what marketing results they want to achieve. The solution to this is to plan out what results you require BEFORE purchasing Keap / Infusionsoft. I do this will all my potential clients before they purchase Keap / Infusionsoft, by mapping out visually their current “marketing and sales machine” and the future version that fulfils all their marketing objectives. At this point, if Infusiosnoft is not the right tool, then I will tell the client and then they are in a position to look for a software that better fits their business. I use a tool called LucidChart to map this out.

2/ No Training.

We are all used to these days jumping into a piece of software and it being simple and intuitive. I could jump into an email sending software, like MailChimp, and within 30 minutes get an email out. That’s easy.

But then look at Keap / Infusionsoft, yes we can send emails just like MailChimp. But we also have CRM, Marketing Automation, eCommerce, Affiliate marketing, Landing Page Builder, Workflow Automation.

And that’s just all the functionality inside Keap / Infusionsoft. When you add on third party tools and even build your own bespoke tools then there is so much to think about. But equally, you have the ability to create a powerful and bespoke sales and marketing system for your business.

Now imagine trying to learn 6 or more pieces of software in one go. So you can see how by having all these tools in one place we have a system that avoids the “multi-system chaos” associated with bolting together systems that are not designed to work together. Without some form of training and guidance, it can take years to learn. I know, because after 11 years I still learn something new about Keap / Infusionsoft every day.

3/ You don’t’ know, what you don’t know.

Keap / Infusionsoft is a wonderfully powerful too in itself, bolt-on 3rd party integrations and it is in a whole other league to competing softwares. But if you don’t know what is possible, then how will you ever think to incorporate powerful marketing strategies and tactics into your business. I live and breathe this stuff and often once I have an understanding of a clients business I can point out gamechanger improvements to their business.

4/ Too many cooks

Keap / Infusionsoft is infinitely configurable. Everyone develops their own way of setting things up in Infusiosnoft. So if you have had multiple staff and the odd consultant setting up campaigns and then editing them then it can all get a bit messy and no one has a clear idea as to what is going on inside Keap / Infusionsoft. You need an in-house “Keap / Infusionsoft Champion” who can take ownership of the Keap / Infusionsoft app and then with some training or guidance build up your sales and marketing machine in Infusiosnoft.

5/ Rubbish in, rubbish out.

If you start out with Infusiosnoft by importing old and poor data then you will live with that for all the time that you use Keap / Infusionsoft. Your email marketing results will be affected by the quality of your data, so you need to get off to a good clean start and make sure you only market to engaged contacts right from the start.

6/ A work in progress.

Some clients start out with the idea that they will buy Keap / Infusionsoft, get a consultant in to set it all up and we are set to go with an automated marketing machine and reap the rewards. This is not the case, this is a long term project that can enable your business to reap huge rewards, but like Rome, it isn’t built in a day. It takes time and dedication.

If you are just starting out thinking about Keap / Infusionsoft then I hope this post has shed some light on areas to watch out for as you go down your Keap / Infusionsoft journey.
